AML Lab is a research group in School of Data Science at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU), which is ranked around #50 in QS World University Rankings.

We have multiple PhD, Joint PhD, Self-financed PhD, Part-time PhD, Postdoc, RA and Visiting positions who are interested in pursuing data mining and machine learning research and applications, especially

  • Personalization, Recommender System, Online Advertising, Search Engine, and Information Retrieval
  • Urban Computing, Smart City, GeoAI, Spatio-Temporal Data Analysis, and Location-Based Social Networks
  • Large Language Model, Reinforcement Learning, AutoML, AGI, Graph Learning, Trustworthy AI, and Multimodal ML
  • AI + X: Education, Healthcare, Carbon Neutral, Social Computing, E-commerce, Finance, and Ecosystem

  • Please highlight your BS’s Average Score/100 and TOEFL/IELTS, since CityU has specific requirements

Exceptionally qualified students are encouraged to apply the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) by Dec 1, with scholarship HK$26,900/month, travel allowance HK$13,500/year, free tuition and on-campus hostel. Official evaluation criteria include GPA, national award, English, publication, recommendation letter, overseas study/visiting experience, etc.

Self-financed and Part-time PhD positions are available year round.

Universities for joint PhD Programme (联培院校名单)

You are welcomed to apply the CityU Joint Ph.D. programme. You can obtain the CityU’s PhD degree simultaneously within the same normal year of study. There is no financial cost from students, and you will get a scholarship of HK$17,500/month during CityU. Please prepare your English test (TOEFL 79 or IELTS 6.5), and submit application to your home university in Dec every year.

Postdoc, RA and Visiting Positions

We are actively recruiting self-motivated Postdocs. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply the RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme (PDFS) by Sep 26, with basic salary HK$406,550/year and travel allowance HK$12,920/year.

Master’s and Bachelor’s students at CityU who intent to work with us, please contact us as earliest due to the limited positions per year. ML knowledge, Python coding and English writing experience is desirable.

Visiting research students & scholars positions are available year around.

Due to the large number of lab members, on-site and online RA positions are only available for excellent students (preferably >= 6 months).
